Office of Community Policing Services

U.S. Department of Justice

The Community-Oriented Policing Services (COPS) office of the U.S. Department of Justice was established as part of the federal Crime Act of 1994. The COPS office is responsible for distributing grants to local units of government in an effort to promote community policing efforts around the country.

PSG has been supporting COPS and its leadership team in a number of ways since 1995, including strategic planning, management training, leadership development, and performance management.

Results Achieved

Development of an organizational strategic plan
Design of new performance management system
Improved leadership of executive team
Specific activities/functions

PSG facilitates annual leadership off-sites with the COPS leadership team to establish the strategic goals for the coming fiscal year. During the year, PSG facilitates monthly performance review sessions at which the COPS senior managers discuss the agency's results relative to the goals they have established.

In addition, PSG assisted COPS in the design of a new performance management system for the agency that strives to align the individual employee performance reviews with the COPS strategic objectives.
